Made by hand, in small batches
Mitti is the Hindi word for earth — and for the smell that rises from it when the first monsoon rain falls. That scent is where we began: at a kitchen counter, with a double boiler, a notebook of blends and a stubborn idea that a candle should make a room feel like somewhere you want to stay.
Every candle we sell is still poured by hand, in batches small enough that we can check each one before it is packed. We cure every batch for two weeks so the fragrance binds properly with the wax, and we use only natural soy and coconut waxes with cotton or wooden wicks. It is slower. It is also why a Mitti Melt candle smells the same on its last evening as it did on its first.
Four stages, every candle
Nothing here is assembled from a kit. This is the sequence every item goes through before it is packed.
- 01
Blending
Soy or coconut-soy wax is melted and blended with IFRA-compliant, phthalate-free fragrance oils, measured by weight until the scent is right.
- 02
Pouring
Each candle is poured by hand into a ceramic cup, amber glass jar or votive, slowly and at the right temperature, so the surface sets smooth.
- 03
Curing
Every candle rests for two weeks before it is sent. It is the quietest stage, and the one that lets the scent settle into the wax.
- 04
Checking
The last step before packing, and where we trim the wick, check the finish and look over each jar before it is packed.
